“I wish I could take my counselor with me, but I know she’ll help others like she helped me.”
– An HCC Success

Meet our Addictions Recovery Staff. Many of them have been where you are today.

A good portion of our recovery staff members have been exactly where you are today. They have faced similar challenges and concerns. Other members have simply chosen to dedicate their careers to helping others overcome their addictions to get back to their lives. Together they form a team with the goal of helping you find the recovery help you need. Take a few moments now to meet some of our key staff members.

David P. Myers, MD, CAP, FASAM
President and Medical Director
Dr. Myers is a fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He has been active in the recovery community for over 20 years. Dr. Myers focused his professional interests on Chemical Dependency after a successful career as an Anesthesiologist. He is the Owner and President of HealthCare Connection and directs and monitors each program in the system. Evaluations are directly coordinated by Dr. Myers to assure that the medical model used at HCC addresses all aspects of the client's mental health and personal fitness.

Michael P. Strolla, DO, MRO, ABAM
Assistant Medical Director

Dr. Strolla works personally with the clients at HCC on a day-to-day basis, monitoring admissions, detoxification, ongoing treatment, and attending to daily medical concerns. He is particularly interested in the medical professionals in treatment at HCC. Dr. Strolla is board certified in Addiction Medicine and is a certified MRO (Medical Review Officer). He serves as a Diplomat to the American Board of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Strolla is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and their Florida chapter FSAM (The Florida Society of Addiction Medicine). He is a graduate of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. His training included an internship and residency in Family Medicine. He is board certified in Family Medicine and residency trained in Sports Medicine. Dr. Strolla is also the Assistant Medical Director of ACTS (Agency for Community Treatment Services).

Don Wood, LMT
Admissions Coordinator

Don Wood, Admissions Coordinator for both HealthCare Connection of Tampa, Inc. and David P. Myers MD-PA, spent nine years as a Certified Addiction Counselor prior to his current position with HCC. He rounded out his experience as a licensed Massage Therapist. Don's experience and understanding of the field of addiction, as well as the process of recovery, enable him to devote the necessary time, attention, and direction necessary for each client to achieve recovery. In those rare cases where HCC is not appropriate for a client, Don will work hard to find an appropriate referral.

Dennis D DelVecchio, R.Ph., LMHC, CAP
Chief Clinical Officer and Director of Professional Programs

Dennis graduated from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science with a degree in Pharmacy in 1990. He then went on to practice as a retail pharmacist, quickly achieving a promotion to pharmacy manager. Having struggled with personal addiction issues throughout his life, Dennis finally hit bottom, entering treatment at HealthCare Connection of Tampa in June of 2000; he essentially never left. After completing his own treatment program he began volunteering his time while working on his Certification as an Addiction Professional in the state of Florida. He then furthered his education by completing a masters program in mental health counseling. Along the way, Dennis trained in EMDR, smoking cessation, psychodrama, and is currently working on his certification as a sex addiction therapist. Employed with HealthCare Connection since 2003, he has acted in the capacity of behavioral health technician, primary therapist, assistant clinical director, and clinical director. He is presently our Chief Clinical Officer and Director of Professional Programs.

Timothy J. Sweeney, JD, CCJAP
Staff Attorney/Risk Manager Director, Recovering Attorneys' Program
Tim's position is unique within the organization. Owing to the high incidence of administrative and other legal problems that affect our clientele, Tim has tailored his function to one of advocacy for those clients who enter into the treatment process. As an officer of the court Tim is able to bring to the treatment team the concerns of the boards, monitoring agencies, and the courts, as well as interpreting therapeutic concerns back to those organizations. We know of no other treatment program which provides such a valuable service to their clients. In addition, Tim is the Founder and Director of HCC's Recovering Attorneys' Program and is a representative at the annual National Conference for Lawyers' Assistance Programs.

She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida.  She also completed a graduate certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy while obtaining her graduate degree and gained ample experience interning at Metropolitan Ministries and HealthCare Connection.  She is currently working to complete her licensure in Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy.

He is the former president of the Board of Directors for the Sisters in Recovery, a program that worked with cocaine addicted pregnant women and their children, in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Before becoming interested in biofeedback, Tom was an engineer and worked for companies such as Lockheed Martin as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. Over the years at HealthCare Connection, Tom has had the pleasure of watching hundreds of clients and their families find new lives in recovery.

Dawn Adkins

Neurofeedback Technician

Dawn originally came to HCC from Columbus, Ohio, to seek treatment for her own drug addiction. She then moved permanently to Tampa and works with us as a technician in our neurofeedback group. Dawn tells us the most rewarding part of the job for her is working with clients and helping them through their recovery process and watching them grow as they find themselves again. She is the mother of three beautiful children. When she’s not helping clients she likes to go to the gym, spend time with family and friends, watch movies and eat good food.

Patrick Myers, B.S., MBA

Financial Officer

Patrick began working at HealthCare Connection of Tampa in 2004 as a Biofeedback Technician. He worked in Biofeedback for four years and learned hands on about addictions and treatment. He later became a Behavioral Science Technician again, working one-on-one with our clients – allowing him to experience their journeys in recovery and see the miracles each day. When he became interested in the business side of HCC, he studied accounting and maintenance as he finished his undergraduate from the University of South Florida with a B.S. in Business Economics and obtained his MBA from the University of Florida. But it’s the knowledge he gained with clients that he puts to use as he works to ensure your time at HealthCare Connection of Tampa is as comfortable as it is helpful.
